Fela Kuti

—Lady

I went to Fela Kuti’s (well, Femi’s really) Afrika Shrine twice while in Lagos. Can only imagine what it was like when he was playing there.

Enjoy Fela’s “Lady.”

This is too good not to share. Hilarious.

I found this gem on my recent trip to Nigeria while watching the Nigerian equivalent of MTV Jams.

3 weeks in Nigeria.

6 Master Coaches trained.

46 SKILLZ Naija coaches trained.

No wahala.

~1hr outside Lagos, Nigeria.

Plates of freshly cut pineapple and fried plantains daily. Really enjoying this Nigeria stay.

Enjoy some photos from my time in Kenya.

Places visited: Nairobi and Eldoret, Kenya

30 minutes away from Eldoret is where the high elevation training ground is for Kenyan runners, hence “home of champions” welcome sign to Eldoret. They’re pretty fast out there.

Traffic lights have been abandoned.

Welcome to West Africa. God’s Finger welcomes you, too.

Shared the road with this fine gentleman today.
In Lagos, the traffic rules the road. Not the police, not traffic lights. Definitely not the lights. Ha.
The flow is kind of like this: Stop. Start. Stop. Oh wait, watch out for that motorcycle. Start again. Bus! Wow, that was close! Start. Stop. Motorcycle. Oops, a fight in the streets. Bus. Motorcycle. Fight. Start.
2 hours later: ok, we made it.
Adewale, Ade for short, has been my driver so far in Lagos. He’s a patient man. The traffic is so bad that I’m leaving for my flight on Friday at 2pm. My flight departs at 10:20pm. What? 8 hours before. Love Nigeria though. Traffic is a part of life and if taken in doses, especially with Ade’s magical driving skills, I think I can handle it — glad it’s not permanent though.
Need to come back. 5 days is not enough. West Africa has been amazing.

Training of Coaches, Port Elizabeth. Oh, what a nice one!
Nigeria today. Can’t wait.

Hey folks. Enjoy some recent pictures. Kind of.

Nigeria on Sunday for a week — Lagos here I come! The team in Nigeria is incredible! One of their staff, Igwe Igwe has a brother who is a tailor and Nigeria happens to have AMAZING traditional suits. Long story, short: I’m looking to get one. And wear it on the last day of the workshop. Stay tuned for ridiculous Jamison-wearing-Nigerian-suit pictures.

Peace!

2012 starting with a bang! Port Elizabeth next week, Nigeria at the end of the month, Kenya in February. Let’s go!

Flavour

—Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)

Fun African Music #1

Heard this song all day, everyday up in the Central African Republic. I believe Flavour is a Nigerian dude. He knows I’m a sucker for a little afro pop (that’s what I’m calling it).

Don’t know why I haven’t done this yet, but starts today! Music is such a part of life here and continues to be such a large part of my experience. So why not, right? Plus, it’s simple: there’s a lot of good music over on this massive continent. If you’re interested, stay tuned for the next music post.

Enjoy.

Photo collection 4 from CAR. This is from my time in Rafai — really remote, really rural and really fun.

Enjoy.
